We're sharing a message directly from Wilfred Blair Rugumba, Executive Director of Mercy Childcare Ministry in Uganda. The ministry recently welcomed nine-year-old Katrina into their care after she experienced a devastating tragedy. As she begins the difficult journey toward healing, we invite you to read Wilfred's words and join us in praying for her.

"Please join us in praying for Katrina, a nine year old girl who has recently experienced an unimaginable tragedy.

Katrina had been living with her mother, who had been struggling with a bank loan. Three weeks ago, her mother wrote a will, asked Katrina to leave the house, gave her some important documents and all the money she had, and then locked herself inside the house.

Tragically, Katrina witnessed her mother set herself on fire and die. Her mother had partitioned part of the house and rented it out to tenants. Sadly, two other people who were living in the same house also lost their lives in the fire.

No child should ever have to experience such a devastating tragedy.

After we were contacted, Katrina was brought into the care of Mercy Child Care Ministry, where she is now safe and surrounded by people who love and care for her. We are praying that God will begin healing her heart and give her hope for the future.

Please pray for Katrina:

  • Healing from trauma: Pray that God will bring deep emotional, psychological and spiritual healing as she processes what she witnessed.

  • Peace and comfort: Pray that God will calm her heart, remove fear and confusion, and help her feel safe and loved.

  • Hope for her future: Pray that Katrina will regain her joy and confidence and begin to see a future filled with hope and purpose.

  • Wisdom for our staff: Pray for our caregivers, counselors and staff as they minister to Katrina, that God will give them patience, wisdom, compassion and strength.

  • God's presence and protection: Pray that Katrina will experience the love of Jesus and know Him as her refuge, protector and Father throughout this journey.

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." - Psalm 147:3

Please continue to keep Katrina in your prayers. We believe that even in the midst of profound pain and loss, God can bring healing, restoration and hope to her life."

With gratitude,

Wilfred Blair Rugumba
