Finished newly build High School in Uganda

We are thrilled to announce that Mercy Childcare Ministry in Uganda has officially opened their first High School. The High School in Kayunga has been a future plan and prayed over for many years. The original timeline was to open in January 2027, but God had a different plan.

“This vision was born out of a growing burden. At Mercy, we give our children a strong foundation in primary school. We disciple them. We walk closely with them. But when they transitioned into secondary school, we began to notice something painful. Many schools focused almost entirely on grades and performance. Character development and discipleship were often neglected, as is common in many Ugandan schools.”

-Wilfred Blair Rugumba

Suddenly in the middle of the year, one of the main secondary schools many of the kids attended doubled their tuition and sponsorship funds couldn’t cover the fees. The two options were to find another school that would fit the budget or start their own High School earlier than planned. With lots of prayer, they decided to start building the new High School.

“I am deeply thankful for our supporters who responded generously and sacrificially. I am grateful for our HR team who worked tirelessly to recruit an excellent leadership team led by Mrs Sheila Akoragye and her amazing staff. They gave up holidays. They worked through Christmas. They went the extra mile so that this dream could become a reality.”

The Mercy Childcare team is rejoicing that the school is now operational. They have a permanent building where teenagers will receive a Christ-centered education.

“A place where faith is not an afterthought but the foundation.”

The location of the new High School was intentional. It is located in Kayunga along the Nile River next to the church plant. In this area, there was only one public secondary school. Many students were used to walking close to 10 kilometers daily to attend school. Because of the long distance, the community has struggled with high drop out rates, early marriages and young girls being vulnerable.

“Teenagers can study closer to home. Girls are safer. Families have hope. And discipleship can continue.”

Thank you for praying, giving, and supporting Mercy Childcare Ministry! God is doing an incredible work in the students here and we are so excited to see how this school makes an impact on the community.
