Philosophy of Teams

Why We Go

At Children to Love, missions isn't about changing someone else's story. It's about joining the story God is already writing.

At Children to Love, our teams are built on the belief that ministry is strongest when it is rooted in relationships. We partner with local Christian leaders who know their communities, understand their cultures and faithfully serve year-round. As guests in their ministry, we come to serve alongside them with humility, learning from one another while contributing our own gifts and experiences. Together, we are reminded that the Church is one body, united in Christ and working together to bring hope to a hurting world.

"We don't go because people need us. We go because we need one another as the global Church."

We believe missions is about relationships, not projects.

At Children to Love, we believe God is already at work in every community we serve. Our role is not to arrive with all the answers, but to come alongside trusted local ministry leaders who have faithfully served their communities for years. Rather than short-term projects, our teams are built around long-term relationships. We go to encourage, learn, serve and strengthen the work God is already doing through our ministry partners. "From Him the whole body... grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." — Ephesians 4:16

We value partnership over "voluntourism."

Short-term missions have sometimes earned a reputation for prioritizing the experience of visitors over the needs of local communities. That is not the model we pursue. Our trips are intentionally designed around long-term partnerships that continue year after year. Every project, activity and opportunity is planned alongside our ministry partners to serve goals they have identified— not goals created from the outside. Our hope is that every team member leaves having contributed to something much bigger than a single trip: relationships that continue for years and ministries that continue every day.

We believe teams transform everyone involved.

While teams certainly encourage our ministry partners, we also believe God uses these experiences to transform those who go. Many team members return with a deeper understanding of God's heart for the nations, a renewed passion for their local church and lasting friendships that continue long after the trip ends. For many, these trips become moments where God clarifies His calling, deepens faith and broadens His vision for His Kingdom. That impact continues in families, churches, workplaces and communities as team members carry what they've experienced into everyday life.

We follow the lead of local leadership.

One of the greatest strengths of Children to Love is that every ministry we partner with is led by local Christian leaders. These men and women are uniquely positioned to understand and care for their communities. They know the needs, they have earned trust and they remain long after our teams return home. Our teams do not direct the ministry— they support it. Whether serving in Romania, India, Uganda, Ukraine or Thailand, team members come with a posture of humility, recognizing that the local staff are the experts in their own communities. This allows our teams to contribute in ways that are meaningful, culturally appropriate and genuinely helpful.

We come to serve,
not to save.

We believe every culture reflects God's creativity and every person bears His image. Our purpose is not to "fix" another country or bring Western solutions to complex challenges. Instead, we seek to listen well, learn humbly and serve faithfully. Sometimes serving looks like teaching in a classroom, encouraging pastors, playing games with children, helping with a construction project or simply sitting with someone who needs to know they are loved. No matter the task, we believe the greatest impact comes by faithfully demonstrating the love of Christ alongside those who serve their communities every day.

Children to Love's commitment

Every Children to Love team and intern is committed to: • Following the leadership of our local ministry partners. • Serving with humility and cultural respect. • Building long-term relationships rather than short-term experiences. • Strengthening ministries that continue serving long after we leave. • Demonstrating the love of Jesus through both word and action.
