Susan is a Bakersfield native and has lived in Kern County most of her life. She is “Mom” to two amazing grown daughters, Erika and Jimmi (married to the incredible David Knight!). She is also “Mimi” to precious granddaughter, Kadence – one of her greatest joys! Susan is passionate about being part of the biblical, lay pastoral counseling ministry, People Encouraging People at RiverLakes Community Church, where she has been a member for over 30 years. Susan returned to school later in life to complete her degree in Psychology/Counseling, and is currently working on her Master's in Counseling. This further education is intended to add a deeper layer of understanding in helping others find freedom in Christ from the pain of their past and current difficulties, as well as become more Christlike in their beliefs, attitudes and purpose, and move toward spiritual maturity.
CTL has provided a place for Susan to continue the work she’s most passionate about, which is establishing deep and meaningful relationships with others. It might be difficult to see that on the surface because she spends most of her day in front of a computer screen, handling financial matters and doing administrative tasks, but at the root of it are the beautiful children and families that God has called CTL to serve and support, which only happens through relationships.
Favorite scripture: Can I please choose at least 2? Maybe 3?? I cannot decide!! Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call to me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” I MEAN, WOW! How powerful is that? Also Galatians 5:22-23 – "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
We asked Susan, "If you were a pasta shape, what shape would you be and why?"
Susan: "I’d have to pick Cavatappi, which is the Italian word for corkscrew. Cavatappi is a small s-shaped pasta that looks similar to a small corkscrew. I chose this shape because of the way it twists and turns, which is very representative of my life in recent years, plus I have been known to enjoy a good, celebratory glass of vino every now and then!"
